James Hunt crossed the line first but had his McLaren M23 disqualified in post-race scrutineering, handing the 1976 Spanish Gran Prix win to Ferrari driver Niki Lauda in his 312T2, extending his Drivers' Championship lead to 23 points.
McLaren appealed the disqualification and the appeal was upheld, re-instating Hunt as winner.
